Title
Letter from Victor Craigin Noyes to Gerrit Smith dated November 7, 1867
Description
Victor Craigin Noyes writes to Gerrit Smith to give him an update after a previous visit in August of 1866. In the letter, Noyes recalls that during this visit he had sought Smith’s help in renouncing his own father John Humphrey Noyes and the Oneida Community. He says this later resulted in him being sent to the New York State Lunatic Asylum in Utica until he could get back to his “usual” self and return to Oneida. He writes that he is now “thankful that God did not let [him] go so far that he could not bring [him] back” and simply wanted Smith to “know the end of this story”.
