Dr. H.B. Wilbur writes to Mrs. Mary Thornton to give her a very short update on her son James Thornton about a month after his arrival at the New York Asylum for Idiots in Syracuse. Wilbur says that her little boy is “very happy in his new home” and that he thinks James “will make an excellent pupil”. Wilbur also writes that James will be very glad to see her soon, but that for now “a visit from [her] might make him homesick again”.
