Letter To Mr. David Jaquith from Dr. John Johnson, May 11, 1968
Description
Dr. Johnson wrote a letter to David Jaquith, President of the Syracuse Board of Education, in response to statements Jaquith made in a March 10, 1968 Syracuse Herald American newspaper story. Jaquith offered his opinion on the problems of urban education in Syracuse, including that principals need to understand the needs and problems of children in the district and that special classes for disturbed children should be increased. Dr. Johnson supported Jaquith’s ideas around more perceptive principals, but believed that the expansion of special classes was not the answer to behavior concerns for children labeled as emotionally disturbed in urban settings.
