Description
Dr. Thomas Szasz received a letter from the Dorthea Dix Hospital Superintendent (1972), who gave him copies of a letter sent to the hospital in 1865. The copy of the original document is a letter asking the hospital if they would “receive an insane Negro” named Isaac. Isaac was the first Black person admitted to the Dorthea Dix Hospital.
